Connect With Readers And Authors On Twitter

I am, admittedly, a twitter noob, but slowly I am embracing twitter for all of its twittering glory. Now I don’t claim to know all the ins and outs, in fact every day I read a new article on what is considered bad twittering habits. But one of the best and most useful tools on twitter are hashtags and lists.

Everybody hates on the poor old hashtag # and even though it is now even embraced on Facebook and Google+ the hashtag really shines on Twitter.

Most of us already know these, but if you don’t here’s a list of very common author friendly #hashtags:
#AmWriting
#AmEditing
#AmReading
#AmRevising
#WordCount
#WordSprints

Especially during November for National Novel Writing Month and CampNaNo times the hashtag
#NaNoWriMo
and
#CampNaNo
will pop up all over your twitter, so that is another good one to know.

Genres are great to hashtag when advertising your book, people doing a search on twitter for paranormal romance will go to the search bar and do a search for #PNR, it will pull up all the searches that include the hashtag #PNR.

#PNR
#Romance
#RomanceWriter
#SciFi
#KidLit
#ChickLit
#FlashFic
#Horror
#YA
#NA
#FanFic
#Historical
#Steampunk
#Erotica

Well you get the picture. If you can think up a genre you can bet there is a hashtag for it.

For Writers Groups, Organizations, and Conventions search for:
#IRC (Indie Romance Convention)
#RWA (Romance Writers of America)
#RomantiCon (Ellora’s Cave Convention)

For Industry info and publishing tips search the hashtags:
#AskAgent
#AskAuthor
#AskEditor
#BookMarketing
#GetPublished
#IndiePub
#PromoTip
#Publishing
#SelfPublishing
#WriteTip
#WritingTip

Extra hashtags for writing help, inspiration, reaching readers, and writing promps:
#WIP
#WritingPrompt
#1K1H (write one thousand words in one hour)
#BICHOK (butt in chair, hands on keyboard)
#AmRevising
#CopyWriting
#EditGoal
#IndieAuthor
#ScriptChat
#WriteChat
#WriteGoal
#WriteMotivation
#WritersLIfe
#WriterWednesday
#WritersBlock
#WroteToday
#WW (Writer Wednesday)

Classic hashtags:
#TBT (Throw back Thursday)
#FF (Follow Friday, shout out to the people you love to follow and encourage others to show them some love)

Hashtags are how topics get trending on Twitter, top trending topics are displayed in your sidebar. As an author I think it’s always great when I see #AmWriting trending in my twitter feed (That usually only happens in November) but one of these days I’d love to see #WakingUpInBedlam, #TheArcadianVeil, or #MiaBishop trending on Twitter. And who knows, maybe one day it will be.

(This is nowhere near all of the possible hashtags you can find on Twitter. Be creative come up with some new ones, use the old ones, but whatever you do don’t let Twitter pass you by. It is a great tool for Authors to connect with other Authors and with Readers. And for you Instagram users, these hashtags work great on Instagram too!)
